Revived Homes gets asked frequently on whether we prefer marble or quartz countertops. We’ve always been biased to the aesthetics of natural marble, granite and quartzite surfaces. Quartz simply doesn’t compare in terms of impact, natural veining and overall look. It’s a fabricated, man-made product…While it may be more practical and durable in the kitchen/bathrooms, what you give up is the beauty of natural stone surfaces. Especially in the luxury market, achieving a sophisticated look is always a priority. That’s not to say quartz is terrible. We use it, we just don’t have it in high traffic areas where we seek greater impact and pizzaz. And YES, even the latest high-end quartz brands tend to look a bit too fabricated for our taste. The larger the countertop space, the easier you will notice the surfaces are man-made material.
Budget Tip: Quartz can also be quite a bit pricier than marble & granite…and again, it looks super fabricated. Don’t overlook marble and granite slabs the next time you’re passing down aisles of stone slabs.
Pro Tip: If you’re worried about marble in kitchens, our suggestion is to consider granite or quartzite which is less sensitive to etching/staining. And of course, don’t forget that natural stone sealers have come a long way to help protect your countertops. In fact, the best level of protection is a sealant called TuffSkin. This company guarantees their product will protect your counters from etching and stains – trusted by industry leaders.
Here is a chart comparing natural stone vs. man-made quartz surfaces. Happy slab hunting.
